People Magazine was the first to laud the new release with a 3 ½ star review, saying: “Their praise-worthy new CD finds this sisterly duo continuing to expand the sonic horizons of contemporary gospel with songs like “Get Up,” the “Off the Wall”-inspired first single, which has cracked both the R&B and dance charts.”

Christianity Today’s online music site also gave the disc a first-class review: “The Sound finds the Campbell’s (Mary Mary sisters Tina and Erica) continuing to set the bar ridiculously high…. The Sound is the most progressive urban disc to come out of Christian and gospel music in 2008, and possibly even mainstream music….The Sound is an undisputed triumph….The Sound amplifies their potential for reaching beyond stylistic boundaries, deepening the creative well from which they draw, and setting a new standard of excellence in urban and gospel music.”

With able assistance from longtime producer and collaborator Warryn Campbell, Erica Campbell and Tina Campbell, the real life sisters better known as Mary Mary, weave their love of truth-grounded Gospel music into a tuneful blend of R&B, pop, soul, jazz, electronic music and more. The Sound premieres 11 new Mary Mary songs including the album’s recently released lead single, “Get Up,” a pop-infused anthem of praise and empowerment, which is starting to get strong airplay at CHR radio.
